Masala Chocolates

The masala chocolates have arrived!

After a lengthy process of trying out different masala's; blends of tea, coffee and chocolate we've launched our signature Chai Chocolate and Coffee Masala chocolates!

The chocolates use a traditional ganache recipe but it was important for us to achieve the right blend of tea, coffee and masala. To get things just right we created our own blend of masala and fused this with loose leaf Kenyan Tea and freshly ground Kenyan coffee.

The Chai Chocolate is a milk chocolate and the Coffee Masala is an intense dark chocolate. There is a dusting of gold lustre on each chocolate which adds to the visual appeal. We'll be posting detailed information about the creative process used to make these chocolates over the next few days.

What exactly is Barfi?

Barfi (pronounced ber-fee) is an Indian sweet made from sugar and milk, with a soft fudge like consistency available in many different flavours. Traditional flavours include coconut, pistachio and almond.

In India Barfi is offered as a sweet to welcome guests into the home, served as a canapé or as an after dinner sweet along side masala tea or coffee.

Why is Barfibox Barfi different?
Traditional Indian sweets lost their popularity in the U.K. as consumers opted for a less oily oily and more chocolately dessert or gift. We took up the challenge to fuse the old with the new and reinvent the Indian Sweet! After trying over 30 different variations from our Mother's recipe we modernised our Barfi by using high quality milk powder, fresh cream and one of the highest grades of Belgian chocolate and introduced some fresh flavours including strawberry, orange and vanilla. The result was an Indian sweet for which appeals to the younger generation and of course the young at heart!
